As with other indigenous peoples around the world, the native Lenca people of Honduras are being pillaged and sacrificed to civilization

Berta Caceres in the Rio Blanco region of western Honduras where she, COPINH (the Council of Popular and Indigenous Organizations of Honduras) and the people of Rio Blanco have maintained a two year struggle to halt construction on the Agua Zarca Hydroelectric project, that poses grave threats to local environment, river and indigenous Lenca people from the region. She gathered with members of COPINH and Rio Blanco during a meeting remembering community members killed during the two year struggle.

Berta Cáceres, the indigenous Honduran woman who saved her people by scaring away the world’s largest dam builder was assassinated yesterday.

According to Global Witness, Honduras is the deadliest country for environmental activists in the world, especially indigenous environmental activists.

Since the US-backed military coup in 2009, almost a third of the country’s land has been stolen and earmarked for mining projects. The new government has approved hundreds of dams around the country to fuel the operations.

One of those dams, near the village of Rio Blanco, would’ve cut off food and water to hundreds of Lenca people.

Circumcision is Child Abuse

March 2, 2016 at 8:06 pm

The people behind the knife should be behind bars for life

thumb Baby boys are being brutally tortured every 25 seconds in the United States.

Let’s not mince words about it. That’s what circumcision is – torture, sexual assault, genital mutilation, unconscionable child abuse, and possibly the most egregious violations of human rights in history.

I understand that this post is going to make a lot of people angry and uncomfortable and maybe cost me a few friendships, but that is not my intent. My intent is to shed light on one of the darkest secrets of all time – one I had basically no knowledge about until a few weeks ago.

The mother of an only-daughter, I’ve really had no reason to research circumcision, so I had no idea the horrors it entailed. One of the moms in our peaceful-parenting play-date group enlightened me in the park last week. She sent me a few links, and I dove in. What a can of worms…

Aboriginal Man Makes Fire in 30 Seconds

February 29, 2016 at 7:17 pm

In a Facebook video posted by Una Antropóloga En la Luna, an aboriginal man from Papua New Guinea makes fire with only 30 seconds of friction, using nothing but a split bamboo stick, dry brush and a reed.

This method appears to be even faster and easier than the primitive drill method by an Australian man Return To Now featured a few days ago.

Depression is a global epidemic. It is the main driver behind suicide, which now claims more than a million lives per year worldwide. One in four Americans will suffer from clinical depression within their lifetimes, and the rate is increasing with every generation.

It robs people of sleep, energy, focus, memory, sex drive and their basic ability to experience the pleasures of life, says author of The Depression Cure Stephen Ildari. It can destroy people’s desire to love, work, play and even their will to live. If left unchecked it can cause permanent brain damage.

Why I Still Breastfeed My 5-Year-Old

February 19, 2016 at 5:50 pm

A couple of years ago, I came across a story about a mother who still breastfeeds her 5-year-old daughter. I’m not really sure why it was newsworthy, but people were shocked to discover a woman feeding her small child the same way all mammals have fed their offspring for eons.

All kinds of bloggers picked up the story, and busybodies jumped in on the comments sections calling the dedicated mother of four every name in the book — “gross” … “disgusting” … “indecent” … “unnatural” … “sinister” … “perverse” … “what’s wrong with the world.”

The most disturbing accusations hurled at this woman were those of “pedophilia” and “child abuse.”

“I bet not many,” I responded, still high from the fact that a tiny human just swam out of my body and latched onto my breast. “I mean look at her… how could they knowingly destroy something so beautiful?”

Four years later, I know exactly how.

Before you start accusing me of being some kind of sick, twisted, child-hating, terrible mother, hear me out.
