Kombucha Made Easy

IMG_1884-768x1028One taste of the sparkling, fruity, super elixir and I was hooked. It was fizzy and refreshing like champagne, but loaded with good bacteria, enzymes, vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin B 12, which my then vegan body was starving for. It gave me a burst of energy (not the jittery caffeine kind) and mental clarity, and helped me digest my food and cleanse my body.

Circumcision Is Male Genital Mutilation

May 10, 2016 at 9:03 pm

It’s as bad as female circumcision

circumcision-1Imagine what would happen in this country if a doctor strapped a young girl’s arms and legs to his exam table and began cutting away at her genitals, while she was writhing and screaming at the top of her lungs, trying to break free.

Banana Peel Tea Helps with Insomnia

13169798_10103864651239852_1793777295_oOne in five Americans suffer from sleep disorders or sleep deprivation, and two-thirds get less than the recommended 7 to 9 hours of sleep, according to the CDC. As a result, nearly 9 million Americans were on prescription sleeping pills as of 2013.

With side effects including “dizziness, memory loss, confusion, depression, anxiety, aggressive behavior, hallucinations and thoughts of suicide,” people popping America’s leading sleeping pill – Ambien – might be relieved to know there’s a natural alternative with zero negative side effects… and it costs about 30 cents a pop…

Forget Overpriced Packaged Coconut Water, Drink Straight from the Coconut

April 27, 2016 at 12:46 am

It’s cheaper, healthier, more sustainable and easy

11666-National-Blvd-300x225Strolling through the cold beverage section in Whole Foods today, my eyes landed on the coconut water. Loaded with potassium, magnesium, calcium and other minerals most Americans are lacking, it’s more hydrating and balancing than plain water and has become a new favorite of mine.

I couldn’t decide between the large 365 brand bottle for $3, or the much smaller Harmless Harvest brand bottle for $5. Harmless Harvest obviously was the higher quality product, as it is “raw” (never heated) and organic. Whole Foods 365 brand, along with the rest are flash pasteurized which kills the enzymes and destroys some of the nutrients. But I wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend $4 on a tiny plastic bottle of electrolyte water.

Is GMO Corn Causing the “Leaky Gut” Epidemic?

March 10, 2016 at 1:08 am

Leaky-Gut-Symptoms-and-EffectsIt has been estimated that nearly 80 percent of the U.S. population has some degree of leaky gut syndrome – a condition where holes in our intestines let food particles and toxins into our blood stream. The medical-industrial complex does not recognize it as a legitimate condition, but alternative healthcare practitioners claim “leaky gut” is the main culprit behind food allergies, auto-immune disorders (like lupus), eczema, multiple sclerosis, and even diabetes and cancer.

Author of Seeds of Deception Jeffrey Smith explains how Monsanto’s Bt corn – which is in the vast majority of processed foods and animal products in America – is literally ripping our guts apart:

Bees Love Cannabis, Not GMO Corn

March 6, 2016 at 5:56 am

foto 6_blog_cdnWhile 37 million bees dropped dead in Canada last week, near a freshly planted field of GMO corn, about a million lucky bees in France are alive and well, taste testing several varieties of cannabis.

The unlucky bees were victims of a deadly, but legal, neonicotinoid insecticide manufactured by Bayer CropScience – yes that’s the same company that makes your headache medicine. (Isn’t it convenient that nutrient-devoid food leaves us in need of an Aspirin?)

Depression is A Disease of Civilization: Hunter-Gatherers Hold the Key to the Cure

February 24, 2016 at 12:40 am

depression-title-image_tcm7-188201Depression is a global epidemic. It is the main driver behind suicide, which now claims more than a million lives per year worldwide. One in four Americans will suffer from clinical depression within their lifetimes, and the rate is increasing with every generation.

It robs people of sleep, energy, focus, memory, sex drive and their basic ability to experience the pleasures of life, says author of The Depression Cure Stephen Ildari. It can destroy people’s desire to love, work, play and even their will to live. If left unchecked it can cause permanent brain damage.

Why I Still Breastfeed My 4.5-Year-Old

February 19, 2016 at 5:50 pm

12752117_10156681566035106_1255400245_oTwo years ago, I came across a story about a mother who still breastfeeds her 5-year-old daughter. I’m not really sure why it was newsworthy, but people were shocked to discover a woman feeding her small child the same way all mammals have fed their offspring for eons.

All kinds of bloggers picked up the story, and busybodies jumped in on the comments sections calling the dedicated mother of four every name in the book — “gross” … “disgusting” … “indecent” … “unnatural” … “sinister” … “perverse” … “what’s wrong with the world.”

But to me, the most disturbing accusations hurled at this woman are of “pedophilia” and “child abuse.”
