The makers of the new “Off Grid Box” say it could be a “game changer” for disaster relief, developing countries and people who live off-grid by choice:

Providing a virtually endless supply of clean energy and clean water, the 6x6x6-foot box can be delivered and deployed just about anywhere in the world, and can impact up to 1500 people per unit.

Its solar panels collect up to 16 KW per day and store what’s not used in batteries for when the sun is not out.

It uses some of the electricity it collects to filter and sterilize water from rain, wells and lakes. It has a built-in rain-water collection system or polluted water can be poured in.

It can even desalinate ocean water!

It stores up to 400 gallons of water and cleans up to 260 gallons per hour.

Originally created for disaster relief, the box is now available for anyone who wants to live off-grid.

“Think about that cabin you would love to hide in, whether by choice to seek inspiration or bliss or as a result of hard times,” it says on Off Grid Box’s Facebook page.

“In any case, your place will never run out of power or safe water. Not to mention, our state of the art technology will raise the value of your now Off-the-Grid estate and you can forget about bills!”

The Off Grid Box is not available commercially yet and there is no mention how much it will cost. You can pre-order one on the company’s website, but it could take up to 6 months before it’s delivered.

The company is currently focused on completing its pilot project in Rwanda, providing electricity and clean water to more than 4000 families there.
