Dasani Has 4 Ingredients: Tap Water, Known Teratogen, Lethal Drug, Salt

One of the chemical additives used to “improve the taste” of Dasani’s bottled tap water is used in lethal injections. The other is known to cause birth defects.

Coca Cola’s Dasani bottled water contains four ingredients: tap water, magnesium sulfate, potassium chloride and salt.

Those may sound innocent enough ingredients, but do you really know what they are? The folks at RealFarmacy.com have taken a closer look for us:

1. Tap Water. Dasani (CocaCola) and Aquafina (Pepsi) have been forced to admit their fancy branded bottles contain nothing but glorified tap water.

Some environmentalists advocate drinking tap water (despite its toxic reputation) to cut down on the plastic pollution associated with bottled spring water… but if you bottle the tap water, doesn’t that defeat the whole purpose?

Sure, their filtration process removes added chemicals like chlorine and fluoride, but it also removes all the naturally occurring minerals necessary for proper hydration, and the “minerals” they add back “for taste” are not in their whole, natural form.

Whenever you mess with nature, there are usually unintended harmful side effects. For example.

2. Magnesium sulfate. Unlike the naturally occurring magnesium present in spring water and good soil, magnesium sulfate is a chemical additive.

Also known as Epsom salt or bath salt, it is a laxative and a drying agent (ever get dry mouth after trying to quench your thirst with a Dasani?), intended for occasional use in the bath.

It is also a known teratogen. A teratogen is any agent that can disturb the development of an embryo or fetus. They may cause birth defects or end the pregnancy altogether.

Magnesium sulfate used to be used to delay labor in pregnant women by inhibiting uterine contractions, but the practice has declined since studies showed it causes birth defects at high doses.

After studies suggested that just 5-7 days of in utero exposure to high doses of magnesium sulfate caused birth defects, the FDA recommended that magnesium sulfate be classified as a Category D teratogen, which is the worst category, other than Category X.

3. Potassium Chloride. Commonly used as a fertilizer, potassium chloride is also used in lethal injections to stop the heart of inmates on death row and fetuses in late-term abortions.

An FDA Category C teratogen, the side effects of too much potassium chloride include: birth defects, cardiac arrhythmias, bowel lesions, gastrointestinal disruptions, muscle weakness, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea,  heartburn, GI tract bleeding, hypersensitivity and nervous system damage.

As with magnesium sulfate, the dosage is what makes this chemical potentially lethal, but do you trust Dasani to determine that dosage for you?

I’d rather consume these minerals in their whole, natural state.

4. Salt. While Dasani doesn’t specify what is meant by this vague term, we can assume it’s plain old sodium chloride, without the vast array of other trace minerals present in naturally occurring, non-chemically altered salt.
